Space Technology Centre AGH in the new building

The big day has arrived! On October 4, the official opening of the D-3 building took place. The building will house the Space Technology Centre and the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and Robotics.

[Translation] "We are handing over a facility that is a testament to our community's ongoing passion for exploration and reaching beyond the horizon. Research in areas such as space engineering enables us to reach there. Space exploration begins right here on Earth, in laboratories like this one, with the teams we have gathered at the Space Technology Centre and at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and Robotics. Here, our staff and students will conduct simulations of conditions on space stations and design and test the properties of the latest materials used in space flights," said Prof. Jerzy Lis, AGH Rector, during the official opening.

Many esteemed guests attended the ceremony, and the ribbon-cutting was performed by:

  • AGH Rector - Professor Jerzy Lis
  • Minister of Science and Higher Education - Dariusz Wieczorek
  • Marshal of the Lesser Poland Voivodeship - Łukasz Smółka
  • Director of the Space Technology Centre - Professor Tadeusz Uhl
  • Dean of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and Robotics - Professor Jarosław Konieczny

Guests also had the opportunity to tour the building and learn about the laboratories being established in the new facility.

The laboratories belonging to the Center for Space Technologies include:

  • Analog Astronaut Missions Laboratory - the Habitat
  • Space Biology Laboratory
  • Space Biomedical Engineering Laboratory
  • Orbital Missions Laboratory
  • Planetary Missions Laboratory
  • Lunar Conditions Simulator
  • Space Data Analysis Laboratory
  • Earth Observation Laboratory
  • Materials for Space Laboratory
  • Metamaterials Laboratory
  • Sensors for Space Applications Laboratory
  • Space Education Laboratory

We are sure that the new space will enable our associated scientists and students to further develop their research projects more effectively. Our Centre is rapidly growing, and the move to the new facility is just the beginning! We will soon reveal some more exciting developments. Stay tuned!
